It saddens me that the party of Abraham Lincoln chose to ramp up racism in an insidious way for political gain.

It's not for short term political gain. It's to change the conservative/progressive narrative - just one step towards reversing the progressive attitudes that they believe are responsible for the 'state' of western societies.
